To the untrained dishware buyer, one might not think of the two most important features. Does it fit in the bottom rack of my dishwasher? When used in the microwave, does the dishware get hot or the food get hot? Check and check and these are therefore a great buy.I have an ASKO dishwasher and my prior 11" round plates would constantly rub up against the silverware rack in the dishwasher. It was a constant annoyance of the rack not rolling smoothly, the silverware rack needing to be adjusted, and the dishwasher not always functioning properly as a result. Not only do these fit in the dishwasher without touching the silverware rack, they are perfectly sized such that the dinner plates can be placed alongside the small plates making filling the dishwasher that much easier! Now, on to the microwave. My prior dishware would get EXTREMELY hot when placed in the microwave. So much that one would need oven mits to remove the item from the microwave and a trivet so it would not melt the table. The food would still be cold with the dishware above 200 degrees fahrenheit and the food cold. Now some might say, said dishware was probably not microwave save, however I say this was similar costing dishware and ANY NORMAL HUMAN BEING puts their everyday plates and bowls in the microwave and dishwasher. It should therefore be noted that THIS Royalty Art Square Hobnail Dishes Set heats the food and NOT the dishware. A spectacular event for me given my prior experience and a notable one for the reader, YOU!Now everything has to have a but so here it goes. When will dishware companies learn that the plate to coffee cup ratio is WRONG! They all do it. I bought 4 sets. I will never need 16 coffee cups. NEVER! Please consider when you buy in 4s, 8s, 12s, 16s, there are kids involved and kids don't drink coffee. Yes they drink Hot Chocolate, but stop it. It is wasteful. It truly is. One of our 16 coffee cups came broken and I thought... should I return it? Nah, how about i break 7 more for fun and have an appropriate number, 8, which gives me 3-4 cups to spare. HA! Rethink your ratios... you'll be able to sell cheaper more people will select your product. It's like Nuprin. Little, Yellow, Different. Think outside the box.Good Luck and thank you for a great product.Very beautiful. Very sturdy. Great in the microwave. They do not get hot, or chip, or craze in the microwave. A bit hard to clean. Can I get a replacement of the coffee cups ? One was broken. Love the setLove these dishes! Lovely quality, nice white finish and they look great on the table for any occasion!Dishes look greatMy wife loves vintage Hobnaile glassware, and although it's merely replicated, it appears and holds up amazingly. Real antique Hobnail could not withstand the day to day use that this dishware holds up to.Beautiful dishware! They were packaged well and are average size dishes.Update: I have been using these dishes for over a year now and I have two sets. I LOVE these dishes! We have had zero chips, cracks or stains and my husband is slowly taking out our glassware so I would say these are durable for a porcelain dish!We use the bowls and small plates the most. The bowls are deep (maybe 2 cups?), which makes them great for soup and cereal. The large plates are perfect for large meals and the small plates are not too small to hold a sandwich or small meal. The dishes themselves don't get hot in the microwave although you can obviously feel very hot food through them. These plates are very flat so I did buy pasta plates (amazon) for anything soupey - pasta sauce, curry, salad, etc. And I found matching smaller bowls (like for ice cream) and condiment dishes at walmart, which I am very happy with!Price and style
